Exploring the longest lavatube cave in South-East Asia

3 Days

Located at an average elevation of 600-700m above sea level, Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark covers an area of 4,760km2of Dak Nong Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands.Being a piece of the ancient Gondwana supercontinent, from about 200-165 Ma ago (Early-Middle Jurassic), the Geopark’s area had deeply submerged into a passive continent marginal sea very rich in ammonites and bivalves.

In the North-east of Daknong Geopark, there is a spectacular geological area called volcano and lavatube system. With a single inactive volcano, it created a mass system of lavatube, also called pyroduct with total 50 caves. But, C7 is the most worthy cave to discover. This is the longest pyroduct of whole SE Asia and as such an outstanding geoheritage site. The cave is SE-NW-directed and has one singular, 11 m deeproof collapse which requires rope (or a cable ladder) to descent and 1067m in length . The collapse hole is scenic due to its vegetation growing at the boulder cone below. The roof collapse does not segment the pyroduct as the collapsed part of the ceiling does not comprise the entire width of the cave passage below.

Most of the galleries in C7 Cave are of walking size. However, towards their end most passages tend to become low and flatten out.
