Our journey this time is from K’long K’lanh village, Da Chais commune, Lac Duong district, Lam Dong province following a trail through the forest to Bo Lang village, Phuoc Binh commune, Bac Ai district, Ninh Thuan province. For a long time, this was a road where the K’Ho brought mountain forest products to the coastal plains in exchange for the salt baskets of Raglai people.
And this is also where the love stories of K’Ho and Raglai boys and girls begin.
The Mountain landscape is as beautiful as a painting.
Starting from K’long K’Lanh village, we went through cashew and coffee fields deep into the forest. After crossing the streams, slippery dry leaves, wading through mud and crossing green grass, we started going up to go through the dense jungle core.
This road connects Bidoup National Park – Nui Ba and Phuoc Binh, these mountains have an average height from 1,700m to 2,200m. As the height increased, the slopes also become narrower and there is only enough space for one person to walk.
The road is slippery. There are steeps up to 60-70 degrees, we use both hands and feet to climb together to conquer the height. There were times when we had to climb on the ancient trees on the slopes. Sometimes, someone in the team shouted because the unwanted black leeches came to visit.
By noon, we conquered a hight of about 1,700m and walked along the back of the mountain what we call the dinosaur’s back. The majestic mountains spread out on both sides are picturesque with hundreds of years old trees such as Dipterocarpaceae, Indochina Dragonplum, etc. Especially the old pine trees with a diameter as big as the arms of two people.
Our team chose a flat place to stop for lunch and sightseeing. We took a nap to continue our journey. As planned, we would camp by a large stream and spend the night. As planned, we would camp by a large stream and spend the night.
As we moved forward, the terrain went up and down, we passed through the old forests towards the stream. Because the road has been empty for a long time, the road has become dense and our speed was not as fast as we expected.
Camping Let’s eat! The top view Mountain landscape Cross the forest
By 5:00 pm, we were still on the back of the mountain. According to the calculation of the guide, to reach the big stream, it took us another 3-4 hours to go in the night with difficult and complicated terrain.
To ensure safety, we decided to camp at the top of the mountain overnight and would continue our journey the next day. As we had anticipated, we had brought extra water so the cooking water at the top of the mountain was not a big problem.
The sunset and mist began to appear on the mountainside and it became cold. In the joyful atmosphere, some people set up tents, some people collected woods for a fire, and others cooked. At 7:00 pm, we gathered together to enjoy grilled chicken, grilled pork… The sound of people beside the campfire had dispelled the fatigue of life. The flickering flames warmed us up and helped us fell into a deep sleep after a long day in the forest.
The birds singing woke us up
As the morning became colder, the wind blew into the tent. Everybody in our team woke up in the sound of birds singing in the forest. We made coffee and prepared breakfast. We enjoyed a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise emerging from the base of the mountain, through the pink clouds and the old pine trees.

After breakfast, everyone happily continued the journey. We kept going downhill, we thought the journey would be easier but unexpectedly our toes were pressed into the sore of the shoes, there were times when we had to go backward to reduce the pressure.
At 10:00 am, after going downhill and crossing a bamboo forest, we arrived at the big stream. We decided to stop here for everyone to bathe and have lunch.
We continue towards Phuoc Binh and Binh Thuan communes. The road is still dense forest with up and down slope but when it came to Ninh Thuan territory it was hotter, especially in the afternoon. Because we ran out of the water, we quenched our thirst with small streams along the way.
After going down the mountain, going through the Raglai’s banana and cashew fields, we went to a village in Bo Lang commune at 16:30. We stayed and drank water to satisfy the thirst, ate bananas from the Raglai people and talked with them.
Goodbye friendly people, we followed the road along the big stream to go to the center of Phuoc Binh commune, where was full of industrial vehicles transporting bananas from farmers everywhere.
